🐝 Weekly Roundup - 🇺🇸 Veterans Day Edition - Issue No. 9

🇺🇸 God Bless America 🇺🇸

In honor of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, this issue is dedicated to those who serve or have served our country, as well as the families who sacrifice so much for our freedom. I also want to recognize those here at home who provide essential support to our veterans.

Today’s Spotlight Story features an incredible local organization - The American Legion - which works tirelessly every day, in countless ways, to serve our community and especially veterans and their families. I’ve known since the beginning of The Buckeye Buzz that I wanted to feature them, and I’m thrilled to finally share about them now.

So let’s get into it, 🐝 cause…

The more you know, the more you go, and hopefully, the more you’ll be inspired to contribute to our community!

~ ❤️ Vanessa

Today’s Spotlight Story features a combination of two incredible local organizations under the umbrella of The American Legion Family (comprised of the American Legion Post 53 & The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 53).

The people here do so much, every day, in countless ways, to serve our community and are especially dedicated to veterans and their families.

📸 LOCAL LENS

🇺🇲 Thank you to Rahul Kaul @ Kandid Clicks Photography for today’s Local Lens submission. He & I conversed briefly on FaceBook, on a totally unrelated topic, which then led to my asking, and him providing me with this - just the kind photo I was wishing to feature in this week’s issue! Like I’ve written before, it’s wild how the right people, places & things, continually arrive before me at just the right time.

🌵 Rahul is an Arizona-based photographer specializing in wedding, engagement, families, portraits, maternity & couples, military & sports photo shoots. You can find Kandid Clicks Photography on Instagram and FaceBook.

FOR THE ❤️ OF DOGS

Nova (Service Dog 💗 ) | 📸 ©️ 2024 Regenia Ward

MEET NOVA!

❤️ I can’t tell Nova’s story any better than as it was submitted to me, so here is an excerpt of the email I received from Regenia (“Reggie”) Ward about her best friend:1

“Let me introduce you to my service dog Nova. I rescued Nova in 2017 at just 6 months old at MCACC in Phoenix. At 6 months old she went through an organization called Dogs4Vets/American Animal Service Society out of Gilbert. This organization allows us veterans (free of charge) to train our own animals who are living with PTSD.

They go through task training and recertification every year. Having her, I have gained some sort of independence when out and about in public. I am a disabled combat Army veteran and she has helped me so much. I want her to be recognized for all the hard work she does. Without her, I don’t know where I’d be right now.”

Thank you so much for sharing Nova, and your story with us, Reggie! I hope to meet you both around town soon!

🏈 FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS SCHEDULE

  • ⌛️ Final weekend of regular season Friday Night Light games!!! If you haven’t yet gone to a game, now’s your chance!

  • 🌻 Loved seeing Buckeye Union’s Football Team enjoying pizza among the sunflowers. Check out Sweet Flower Home’s reel to catch the highlights! I visited the field on Saturday and am now hooked on these sunflowers, which are unlike any flowers I have every purchased in a store. Make a note to attend yourself next November!

  • 🔥 VHS is on fire! Click link below for more about that & for the schedule for all local teams: ⬇️

🐝 THIS & THAT 🐝

  • 💪 In the market for local 🇺🇸 merch? I met this fella, Freddie, at the Bales Hay Sales Swap Meet and loved his wooden flags (as seen in the photo above). He owns Maga Flag Shop. His items available online and sold locally at the Feed Store - On The Curve (18802 W. MC 85, Buckeye).

  • 🇺🇸 For years, it seemed like I was having to buy a new flag every other month (the elements here really tatter them fast)! However, I finally found THIS ONE and have had it up since July and it still looks brand new! Highly recommend!*

  • 💡 Did you know that flags should only be displayed at night if they are illuminated? Otherwise, they are only to be flown from sunrise to sundown. Of course, good ole’ Tony, noticed right away ours wasn’t properly lit! He hooked us up with a solar-powered flag pole like this so we can now properly fly our 🇺🇸 all day & all night!*

  • Dispose of your tattered or retired American Flags in the donation container at the Veterans Day Celebration & Remembrance Day Observance on November 11th at The Village Green in Verrado from 4-5 PM.

  • The American Legion - Post 53 (featured in today’s Spotlight Story) in downtown Buckeye also has a Flag Retirement Bin in front of their building.

1  Reggie’s submission was yet another instance of the right people, places and things showing up before me at just the right time. Reggie had no way of knowing that I would be writing this issue dedicated to Veterans Day. Her email to me with their story - and Reggie being a vet - landed in my in-box before I even realized I need it! I will continue to share about these blessings because I am very thankful for the spiritual direction I receive daily for the content & creation of The Buckeye Buzz.
