🐝 Weekly Roundup - Issue No. 12

🦃 HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! 🦃

Hello Buckeye!

I’m starting to write this issue earlier than I normally do, because I just discovered something and I don’t want to wait another minute to express my gratitude:

Until now, I never knew you guys were leaving comments along with your poll responses. 🤯

I have read every single one of them - multiple times 😭 - and would personally thank each one of you HERE except I don’t want to list your email addresses publicly and I don’t know your names. Just know I know who you are (by email address at least 😉) and your kind words mean so much to me! I’m going to print them all and hang them on my desk to remind me to keep moving forward when I’m having a hard day or doubting myself.

I am so grateful for all of you! Thanks for being here!

Now, let’s get into it, 🐝 cause…

The more you know, the more you go!

~ ❤️ Vanessa

🎁 BUCKEYE GIFT GUIDE: SHOP SMALL

What fun I had touring the local markets to cultivate products and bring you this gift guide that I hope will help make your holidays a little easier and a little more fun!

I met so many wonderful vendors and am inspired by the heart & soul they pour into their businesses & the community. We are lucky to have a wide variety of gifted artisans in Buckeye! I hope you will consider supporting them with your Christmas purchases this year and keep your hard earned bucks in Buckeye!

©️2024 The Buckeye Buzz

Those of you originally from California may remember the legend known as Huell Howser. My family and I loved his PBS shows - “California Gold” & “Visiting with Huell Howser.Huell loved people and loved telling stories, and often in his trips around California, he’d be on the trail of one story and end up finding other interesting things to share. In writing The Buzz, I have come to feel a lot like Huell - continually surprised & delighted!

On Sunday afternoon, as I was returning from my first ever trip to Tartesso (you’re right, it’s not that far!), just as I was about to get on the freeway, I saw several parachutes drifting down from the sky. I pulled over to take a photo - which was terrible - so I rushed over to Buckeye Airport and met these fellas just as they landed.

I cannot even tell you how excited I was about this! I will be going back there to do a more in-depth story about Skydive Buckeye so keep an eye out for that in a future issue.

Also, happy to learn that past episodes of Huell’s show can be watched online through Chapman University for free here. If you’re ever planning a trip to California, Huell highlights all the best places to go, see & do! There will never be another like him! What a gift he was to the world. Sadly, Huell passed away in 2013, at the much-too-young age of 67.

FOR THE ❤️ OF DOGS

  • 🧸 Toy Drive for Maricopa County Animal Care & Control Shelter Dogs: The goal is to stock the shelves with enough toys for every dog (currently 500 dogs available for adoption🥹)! Check out this FaceBook post for all the details or shop their Amazon wish list and ship requested items directly to the shelter: West Valley Animal Care Center, 2500 S. 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85009 (602/506-7387).

  • 🐕️ If you have a dog, it (or actually you 🤣 ) probably needs training! I saw someone online raving about these dog training classes held at Sundance Park, offered through the City of Buckeye. There are basic, intermediate & advanced classes available, starting on December 8th! Good socializing opportunity too, for both you & your pooch!

  • 🐶 West Valley Animal Rescue is always in need! They are looking for pens, folders, gently used blankets, comforters, sheets, towels (bath size), collars, crates, leashes, laundry soap & folders.

COMMUNITY 💟 HEARTBEAT

📸 Photo Courtesy of April Parks | Bealls’ Adopt-A-Senior Table

Be A Santa to a Senior Citizen: Thank you April Parks for your FB post about this Adopt-A-Senior gift program. April said the seniors ask (on the cards) for the most simple things, like blankets, an alarm clock, gift basket, etc. The table (at Bealls on Watson - pictured above) is right inside the front door, where you select a card with a senior’s name & their request and then purchase the item. You leave the item & the tag at the store.

If Bealls doesn’t have the item requested at that store, you purchase it elsewhere and then return it to their store with the tag. The items are later wrapped and delivered to the recipients. This is a cause near & dear to my heart and so many elderly are alone and living on fixed incomes. Join me in adopting one!

See linked page for more info and a list of all businesses who have “Senior Trees.” 💝

🐝 THIS & THAT 🐝

  • Last year, quite accidentally on a “Black Friday Sale,” I purchased one of my most-favorite household tools: The TineCo iFloor 3 - cordless, wet/dry floor cleaner. It’s on-sale again now! Note, even though it vacuums & mops all at once, I always run my vacuum first. Also, I rinse & clean it thoroughly after each use. It has helped me cut my floor cleaning time down from all day to 1 hour!*

  • We also just purchased 2 of these desk chairs to replace my teen boys’ thrashed gaming chairs. Currently a ”Black Friday Deal.” They are comfortable and very well made. Note: This version is “big & tall,” which means it’s wider than a regular desk chair (which I like because then I can sit in it with my legs crossed in the seat).*

  • Thrilled to announce that I will be participating in the Buckeye Civic Institute program. Classes start in January. Want to join me? Space is limited to 25 participants. Check out the schedule & apply here.

🔗 ADVERTISING & SPONSORSHIP OPTIONS

I’m inching my way closer to releasing advertising & sponsorship package options. I know there are many of you who have been waiting for this since I released the first issue. Thank you for your patience. 🙏

If you are interested in options to showcase your business on an ongoing basis, please email me at [email protected] to get on the list to apply when those options become available (in the very near future). When you email me, I will need:

  • You/your business contact info;

  • Your social media links; and

  • If you are the type of business that requires licensing (e.g., cottage baker), I need confirmation you are licensed. You don’t have to send me your license, I’ll take your word for it. 😉

➡️ I am looking forward to connecting our community with you & you with our community! This newsletter was born out of that necessity. ❤️

Until next week…

💌 If you enjoyed this issue, please share it with someone who will also be having pumpkin pie for breakfast tomorrow!

And, as always, I’m here for any feedback, thoughts, topic suggestions, or if you just want to say hello. Reach me by replying to this email or directly at [email protected].
