I’ve got that Frank Sinatra song stuck in my head (now maybe you do too 😆) because I am counting the days until the Buckeye Air Fair this weekend!
As one of the perks (there are many!) of taking part in the Buckeye Civic Institute (“BCI”), Mr. Buzz and I have been invited to the VIP event on Sunday—I’m looking forward to seeing the spectacular show that everyone keeps telling me about.
My favorite uncle (Gary 😇 ), participated and raced in airshows (specifically the Reno Air Races held in September every year), but I was always too chicken to ever go see him fly. It’s one of my biggest regrets (he passed away in 2016), so I’m pretty proud of myself for actually being excited about attending this event.
The Buckeye Air Fair details can be found in the Event Listings section below. It runs Friday through Sunday, and it is FREE (except for parking). Hope to see you there!

🤩 I have never heard of this but, wow, dogs never cease to amaze me!
Nancy Janssen submitted the above picture of her dogs Zeta (a rescue, not sure of the lineage) and Bella (a registered lab). Both are scent detection canines (Zeta is now retired). The Janssens (live here part-time) and own a pest control company in Iowa. Nancy provided me with this story about them:
“Our scent detection canines have been trained to alert on the ‘scent of live bed bugs and viable bed bug eggs.’ They are tools in our arsenal of bed bug eradication. It is pretty amazing to watch them work! They are pets until they are put on task and then they search for the scent of bed bugs. We perform services for hotels, college dorms, medical facilities, multifamily residences, fire stations and private residences.”

✈️ In keeping with this week’s theme, I thought I’d share a tidbit about the military aircraft we hear and see overhead daily. They are mainly F-35 Lighting II (as shown in the picture above) and fly out of Luke Air Force Base in Glendale which is a major training base for pilots of those planes. In writing this today, I’m also seeing F-1s and F-16s on the radar.
👀 If you want to watch them take off/land, I’m told the best place to view is on the north end of the runway, at Northern & Litchfield, just outside of the base (which is not accessible to civilians).

🤠At long last, Waddell’s Longhorn has re-opened! They have various events (DJ Trivia & Bands) throughout the week and those will now be listed in The Buzz! Thanks to reader Bonnie Rojas for emailing me about this, too! Also, I’m linking their FB page because their website has not yet been updated.
⚾️ Cactus League Spring Training starts on 2/20/25 (Cubs @ Dodgers). This is a fantastic (and affordable) way to see your favorite teams play ball. Check the schedule out and buy tickets here.
❤️🩹 Rally for Jack Jack: On 1/31/25, a local Senior Scholar at Odyssey High School was involved in a serious dirt bike accident. Along with helping their son heal from his traumatic injuries, the family is facing financial hurdles due to insurance complications, among other things. Accordingly, a GoFundMe has been set up to assist them. The Buzz is praying for you and your family, Jack Jack! 💗
