🐝 Weekly Roundup - Issue No. 17

🥳 Happy Thursday! Happy 2025!
Isn’t the time between Christmas and New Year’s like a strange, time warp? At this point, the only reason I know what day it is, is because I write this.
I am grateful to have had this time over the holiday to catch up on life: washed some windows, cleaned out my closet, deep cleaned the house (Mr. Buzz helped 😉), finished my Media Kit, and got to play tennis with my family (my favorite!!!)!
The end of 2024 also marks 2 years since I left my career; it was time, it was long overdue, but it also wasn’t easy. There’s a lot I could say about that, and all the grief I’ve processed since (also lost my grandma Margie, my father-in-law, Troy, and my best friend, Bamboo, all in 2024), but the most-important thing to focus on is what guided me out of that terrible place and that is finding my purpose in writing The Buckeye Buzz. What a gift! Thank you for being part of it. ❤️
Now, let’s get into it, 🐝 cause,
The more you know, the more you go!
~ ❤️ Vanessa

💡 Some things you may not even know you need to know…
There are so many options for disposing of things! One person's trash could truly be another's treasure. Today, we’re diving into how you can contribute to the community, lighten your load, live a little greener and waste a little smarter. 🌿

IN CASE YOU DIDN’T KNOW 🔎
🍩 BoSa Donuts is now open at Sunrise Market in downtown Verrado. Full review coming, but I was just there and the sign on the door says they are accepting all expired coupons until 01/15/25. I found a coupon in one of those “valpak” envelopes of coupons that come in the mail, but I unfortunately tossed it thinking it was expired. Boo hoo! [Updating this minutes before publication: there’s another coupon in this week’s mailer!]
🌵Lots of things happening regarding land use in Buckeye. The city wants to hear your opinion on the 3 options being considered for “The Landing” (3.4 miles of land between I-10 & Yuma). Read all about the project, view the presentation and review the options, & submit your comments and/or concerns here. I already submitted my concerns and received a personal response.
🗑️ Also changes happening regarding our local waste management services. The Buckeye City Council will be reviewing and voting on the proposed new trash and recycling rates on January 7th and invite the public to share their thought during the meeting. More info here.

Every year you make a resolution to change yourself. This year, make a resolution to be yourself.

KIND WORDS 🌺
❤️ I want you to know how much I appreciate your love for The Buzz! Your kind words bring so much sunshine to my life, I want to start sharing them! Here are a few, but there are many more and I read and value EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM! Thank you for taking the time to send them to me. ❤️
“Love all the local information!”
“Thank you for your hard work in keeping us informed!! Happy New Year!”
“So much good information as usual! We decided to kick Cox to the curb too and we have Wyerd being installed tomorrow!”

FOR THE ❤️ OF DOGS
❣️ That look on Gia’s little face hit me right in the heart, I melted! This is the longest I’ve ever been without an animal of my own and your pet submissions, and the little dogs who visit me on occasion for dog sitting, help fill the void. I love it when you send me pictures of your characters! Thank you!
🐕️ Through January 15th, Pamela Holman is collecting old towels, flat sheets, blankets and pillow cases for a new vet clinic in the area. They will pick up from your porch! Easy peasy.

LOCAL LENS 📸

©️ 2024 The Buckeye Buzz
🌿 Have you thanked a Bougie (pronounced “boo-ghee” 😉 ) today? Seriously, what would we do without the vibrant beauty and pops of color that bougainvilleas gift us year-round here in the desert? From their cascading, wild vines to their delicate blooms-within-a-bloom, in various shades of magenta, orange, white, and red, these resilient plants remind us that even in the driest, hottest climates, life finds a way to survive & thrive. And, these frigid temps don’t phase them either!
🌿 Bougainvilleas are a symbol of perseverance, adaptability and practicality! These hardy shrubs double as natural fences, shade providers, and even security (thanks to those sneaky thorns!). They also can been grown in pots and in the ground - so versatile! I’ve even been using cuttings from mine in a vase by my kitchen sink.
🌿 So next time you pass a Bougie, pause for a moment to admire its tenacity and beauty. And maybe, just maybe, offer it a little “thank you” for spreading so much cheer throughout the year!

THIS & THAT 🐝

🤩 Nobody hustles like Carol Kerkau! You may have seen me share about her before in the dog section as she offers pet nail trimming too. And, if you are on Facebook, you’ve seen her hustle firsthand. She had the innovative idea to start doing personal deliveries and wow, she’s killing it! Very inspiring! If you need errands, groceries, food, etc., she’s your gal! She offers quick, affordable, contactless delivery for a donation of $7-$15 depending on your Buckeye location. Text her at 602-312-1081.
💔 Lucia Martinez (Buckeye local) passed away on December 22, 2022. Apparently, she had surgery, was recovering, and then took a sudden turn for the worse. She leaves behind a husband and three young children. Her husband, Luis Vazquez Gonzalez, has indicated donations can be sent to him directly via Zelle (his name @602-505-3384) or Go Fund Me. While it looks like their initial fundraising goal, to cover funeral expenses, has been met, I’m sure further financial assistance would be appreciated.

BUZZ BUSINESS PARTNERS
🐝 I’m so close to being able to include local businesses here!
I am just waiting on one small but important regulatory-related detail. Otherwise, my ad package options are ready to send, so be on the lookout for an email from me very soon! If you have already contacted me to request this, you are on the list!
It is my goal to have local ads in next week’s issue. 🤞
If you’re interested in advertising and sponsorship options, email me at [email protected]

Until next week…
💌 If you enjoyed this issue, please share it with someone who is ready to get back on a schedule! 🤣
And, as always, I’m here for any feedback, thoughts, topic suggestions, or if you just want to say hello. Reach me by replying to this email or directly at [email protected].
